Talent One · Job-seeker intelligence
TalentOne Index™: read the 2025 market like a search firm.
The June 2025 jobs print is still the cleanest official baseline most candidates are using. This page translates that print — and the AI screen sitting in front of it — for legal, finance, venture, and technology operators.

Why this desk is different
Talent One is a Providence retained-search firm led by Melissa Kashouh. The firm is woman-owned and Black-owned. The Index is a briefing tool, not a lead magnet that locks the numbers behind a seven-field form.
If you want the public analog, start on the job-seekers desk or the insights feed. Follow the firm on LinkedIn.
June 2025 jobs report — the baseline
On 3 July 2025 the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that U.S. nonfarm payrolls rose by 147,000 in June and that the unemployment rate held at 4.1 percent. Gains concentrated in state government and health care. Federal government and manufacturing did not.
Source: BLS The Employment Situation — June 2025, USDL-25-1089, released 3 July 2025. Government +73,000 and health care +39,000 are the official establishment-survey moves, not Talent One estimates.
Read that print as a map, not a mood. Stability sat in government and care. Production roles kept giving way to automation and weaker orders. If you are targeting C-suite, GC, or operator seats, the public print is the backdrop. The seats themselves still clear through retained search.
By mid-2026 the headline pace had cooled. Use 2025 as the documented baseline. Do not quote it as if it were last month.
AI in recruiting is already the first reader
Most large recruiting workflows now run a model before a human opens the file. Survey numbers bounce by vendor — mid-60s percent recruiter adoption is the figure the industry kept repeating through 2024–2025 — but the operating fact is simpler: your first audience is software.
Write for the parser
Standard section labels. Skills clustered next to a result. No headers-as-images. No keyword wallpaper.
Then write for the partner
One paragraph that a hiring partner can recast in a client memo. Scope, constraint, result. That is the pass that gets you the room.
Show the tool, do not name-drop it
“Used Copilot” is not a skill. “Cut diligence time by rebuilding the issue list in the model, then verifying against the board deck” is.
Rebuild the artifact
If the resume still reads like 2019, the model will treat you like 2019. Use Resume Architect before the next apply.
What to build toward 2030
Demand is not “AI jobs.” Demand is operators who can put a model inside an existing P&L without lighting the compliance stack on fire. That is true in legal ops, finance, venture portfolio support, and technology leadership.
AI fluency with a workflow attached
Premiums accrue to people who can brief, constrain, and audit a model — not to people who list tools.
Domain judgment
A GC who can read model risk, a CFO who can price an automation program, a CTO who can cut opex without breaking the product.
Hybrid operating rhythm
Distributed teams, shorter cycles, fewer layers. If your leadership story still assumes a floor of 12 direct reports in one building, update it.
Privacy, cyber, ESG as add-ons
These show up in the spec. They rarely are the spec unless that is the mandate.
Sector read — legal, finance, venture, technology
We stopped publishing made-up “jobs added” figures for these four verticals. The BLS does not print a clean monthly “venture capital jobs” number, and a $48k–$600k salary band is a poster, not a market. What follows is the mandate pattern we actually work.
Venture capital
The check is no longer the product. Funds want operating partners who can sit on a portfolio company through a messy market — finance, GTM, and governance, not another associate who can build a deck.
Roles we see: operating partner, CFO / finance business partner, investor-relations lead, platform chief of staff.
Skills that clear: cash discipline, board reporting, AI-assisted diligence, ESG only when LPs require it.
Finance
Fintech and controllership still hire. The upgrade is operators who can stand up automation without losing the audit trail.
Roles we see: CFO, FP&A lead, controller, credit / risk, finance systems.
Skills that clear: systems fluency, risk, clean close, the ability to brief a model and still sign the number.
Legal
In-house seats want counsel who can use legal AI and still own privilege, privacy, and vendor risk. Paralegal and legal-ops demand follows the same stack.
Roles we see: general counsel, deputy GC, privacy / compliance, legal ops, senior paralegal.
Skills that clear: AI-assisted drafting with human review, data privacy, commercial contracting speed.
Technology
The “growth CTO” brief is thinner. The brief that is getting retained is the operator who can deploy AI to reduce cost without stranding the product or the security program.
Roles we see: CTO / CIO, CISO / security lead, data / AI lead, staff+ engineering.
Skills that clear: cloud, cyber, model governance, delivery against a budget.
Candidates: start at the job-seekers desk. Hiring leads: the retained process lives on executive search and hire talent.
Numbers we will actually defend
We dropped the unsourced “90% face stiff competition,” the vendor-hopping “67% of recruiters,” and the “3.4x AI roles” line until they can be tied to a named primary source on this page.
Questions candidates actually ask
How do I stand out in an AI-screened market?
Write the resume for two readers: the model and the partner. Cluster skills next to outcomes, name the stack you actually use, and drop decoration that ATS parsers ignore. Then run the same language through the TalentOne Index™ so the compensation ask matches the market you are entering.
Will AI take my job?
AI is already in the screening stack. The risk is not a bot in your seat. The risk is a peer who can show how they use the tools you only mention. Candidates who can brief a model, audit its output, and still make the human judgment call clear the first screen more often.
What skills are actually being hired?
Across legal, finance, venture, and technology mandates we see the same three clusters: AI literacy tied to a real workflow, domain judgment that a model cannot fake, and operating fluency in hybrid teams. ESG, privacy, and cyber show up as add-ons, not as the job.
How should I negotiate salary in 2026?
Do not open with a number you found on a public average. Scope the role, the market, and the sector, then use the TalentOne Index™ as the floor for the conversation. Negotiate the work — scope, equity, and start date — not just the headline cash.
How do I use the TalentOne Index™?
Open the Index, choose sector, role, and market, and read the range before you take a screen. It is a compensation briefing, not a job board. Use it to decide whether an offer is a market price or a discount. Run it now.
Run the number before the next screen
The market is not mysterious. It is uneven. Get the range for your sector and market, then decide whether the conversation is worth the cycle.
